Dan's done this before with his previous trip covering both North and South America, so this customized jeep prepped for a two-year jaunt around Africa is based on experience and purpose. In this setup, the storage boxes can be shuffled depending on needs while sleeping space is added with the pop-up camper top.
I installed sound and heat insulation in the entire floor of the Jeep, then covered it with lino for durability.
Cabinets and bench seats made from lightweight aluminum tube and plywood. Stores all my stuff. The whole setup also converts to a sleeping platform when required
Check out the build blog - great, versatile setup.
Water is the number one limiter for days without resupply. I have a 12 gallon under-body mounted drinking water tank.
Likely to be of any perfectionists builder with limited interior space.
Customised pop up camper top. Bed can be half or full width.
Dual purpose mattress segments, also used for seating on storage boxes in cabin.
Isolated batteries mean I can run the fridge for days without starting the engine. I have two D34s.
To charge the second battery. I have 2x 100W panels
USB powered fan. Light, charges off USB, has speed settings and internal battery.
No roof storage, only the pop up camper top. Had concerns about carrying weight high on the vehicle.
Spare tire and recovery mats
Sun shade over the kitchen area at the rear.
Simple and light.
